Dolly Fixtures exhibition
The LEAP Entrepreneur of the Year 2016, Tracey Horan of Dolly Fixtures, has had a busy couple of months since exhibiting at the prestigious ‘Spotted’ showcase held at London’s Olympia in September. Only a small number of applicants are selected for ‘Spotted’ each year, which is part of one of the UK’s longest established and most highly regarded retail trade events.
LEAP (Local Enterprise & Apprenticeship Platform) was created by Lewes District Council in 2013 and seeks to provide aspiring entrepreneurs with the training and support needed to make their business ideas a reality. Tracey has no doubts about the benefits afforded to her through participation in LEAP “the programme was so helpful in every way to get my business model right. Winning the money was a bonus and enabled me to invest in trialling my pieces with different finishes and materials sooner than I hoped”.
With mannequins as the core structure, through Dolly Fixtures Tracey creates quirky functional furniture for those who like something a little different. Having won the LEAP award, Tracey has had some interesting commissions, including one that pays homage to Adam West, with Batman and Robin figures now standing sentry at the doors in a public house in North London.
In addition to brand exposure and having plenty of contacts to follow up, Tracey is now talking with a high-end department store regarding inclusion of her products for their visual displays next year. A large table lamp and side table are now sharing space with beautiful blooms at a florist in Kennington and due to very positive feedback at the show about her newly introduced, unusually shaped cushions, she is busy increasing her range in time for Christmas.
The LEAP programme is free to enter and you could receive expert training and support, as well as the chance to win a cash prize to help you start your business.
