An exciting opportunity has arisen within Lewes and Eastbourne Council's Regulatory team.
You will be joining a busy, friendly, and professional team with prospects to gain experience in a wide range of environmental health areas.
We are seeking for an experienced and competent Environmental health or Food Safety officer, with capacity to work under pressure and meet challenging deadlines, to provide a high-quality service to the public, the business community and external organisations to join our Regulatory Services team.
Successful candidates will be responsible for enforcing a wide range of legislation and providing advice in line with Council policy and government requirements.
You will be expected to work on a set caseload and must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, have a practical outlook, show initiative and be willing to be part of a dynamic team.
The work includes food safety interventions including inspections, project work, reactive work such as investigation of complaints, health and safety, Infectious diseases, port health and proactive work with event organisers.
You will identify contraventions, execute appropriate enforcement action based on risk and where necessary, prepare reports and evidence for legal proceedings and giving evidence in court.
It is essential you can analyse and interpret complex information, make objective assessments, and decisions in a proportionate way. It is also essential you can communicate clearly and effectively, be well-organised and committed to high standards of customer care.

For roles within our food service, you must meet the Food Standards Agency competency framework outlined in the Food Law Code of Practice Guidance. You will be registered with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) - either directly or via prior registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB).
Applicants will have a degree/diploma in Environmental Health or other relevant qualifications that enables you to undertake the responsibilities effectively.
Driving license and own vehicle is essential for this post as is a willingness to work outside of normal office hours from time to time.
