Crematorium and cemeteries

Coronavirus (COVID-19) update on funeral services at Eastbourne crematorium and cemeteries

All our cemeteries and crematorium grounds are now open to the general public. We ask residents to please follow the social distancing guidance and keep 2 metres apart.

From Monday 10 August, face coverings must be worn in all buildings.

Crematorium office and Book of Remembrance room

The Crematorium Office is currently closed to the public but limited services are available over the phone 01323 761093 or 01323 766536. Or you can contact us by email using our online form

The Book of Remembrance is open from Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm.  For the time being, we are still closed at the weekends.

  • The number of mourners who can attend a funeral has been updated to a maximum of thirty in the Main Chapel and eleven in the Family Chapel.
  • Family, and a small number of close friends can attend, provided the numbers do not exceed the chapel maximum.
  • Test and Trace will be in operation under the conditions set out by the NHS and Government.
  • Those attending funerals should practice social distancing in all areas and wash their hands regularly. Handwashing facilities are available and hand sanitiser is free to use at the entrance to the chapels. We ask that you sanitise your hands upon entering the chapels.
  • We request too, that used tissues and other waste items such as water bottles and used masks are taken home and disposed of safely by the individual.

  • Those showing symptoms of Covid-19 should not attend funerals or any part of the cemetery or crematorium grounds

Those over 70, with an underlying health problem, or pregnant women are particularly encouraged to heed this advice. This may mean they have to miss the funeral, or hold the funeral, or have a memorial service at a later date.
