Consultation launched over taxi licensing guidance

People are invited to have their say about how taxi and private hire drivers are licensed across Eastbourne.

Eastbourne Borough Council, which is the licensing authority for all Hackney Carriage and Private Hire applicants in the town, has launched the eight-week consultation today (Monday, February 1).

The council has reviewed its guidance regarding those seeking licences to take account of the Department for Transport's Statutory Standards for the Taxi and Private Hire trade published last year.

People are now being asked for their views on the updated council document.

Councillor Colin Swansborough, Cabinet member for Place Services, said: "We take our licensing responsibilities very seriously and our priority is, as always, to ensure people's safety and welfare when using these vehicles.

"Taxis and private hire fulfil an essential need within our transport system and it is important the trade is monitored and that our guidance is regularly updated."

The draft guidance and online survey are available at lewes-eastbourne.gov.uk/consultations/eastbourne-taxi-and-private-hire-licensing-guidance-consultation

Councillor Swansborough added: "Anyone who uses taxis or those who are in the business themselves are encouraged to take part in this consultation by reading the draft guidance and completing our online survey."
