Modular homes craned into place in Eastbourne

Fort Lane

A development of affordable council housing in Eastbourne is taking shape in Fort Lane after a huge crane manoeuvred the high-quality modular homes into place.

The site previously consisted of disused light industrial units but is on its way to being transformed into five terraced homes and two semi-detached homes, each with their own garden and parking.

It is Eastbourne Borough Council’s second modular housing development in the town, with the first opening in Langney Road and now providing new homes for 12 families.

Councillor Alan Shuttleworth, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “It is quite something to see these high quality homes up in the Eastbourne sky before being carefully positioned and joined together with the other modules already in place.

“Our modular development in Langney Road has proved very popular with tenants and I’m certain this superb new housing will too.”

The scheme is being delivered through a modular housing framework that was established between Lewes District Council and modular homes contractor, Boutique Modern, and is accessible to other local authorities across East and West Sussex.
