More Success for Council’s Local Employment and Training Initiatives

Jamie on site with Mark

Work on the new Barchester Healthcare home situated in Pevensey Bay Road, Eastbourne, is progressing well, with a planned opening in early Autumn 2019.

McGoff Construction, the main contractor for the construction of the care home, has provided a number of employment and training opportunities in line with a Local Labour Agreement signed with Eastbourne Borough Council during the planning application process. Local Labour Agreements are an important aspect of the Council’s work in maximising employment and skills opportunities for local residents.

One example is Jamie Towner, who contacted the Council seeking a plumbing work experience placement. After successfully gaining a Construction Skills Certification Card (CSCS), McGoff Construction and CMB mechanical sub-contractors offered a placement and have supported Jamie whilst on site.

Jamie said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed my plumbing work placement over the last few months and have found the experience invaluable to my studies."

Mark Tomalin, Project Manager said: "McGoff wish Jamie all the best in the future, it has been a pleasure giving him the opportunity to experience a live site environment."
