More than 120 people from 90 businesses attended a food seminar organised by Eastbourne Borough and Lewes District Councils’ environmental health team.
The aim of the seminar was to support local businesses by educating them about changes in the law as well as introduce the new team for food enforcement.
Organised by Karen Halls, Specialist Advisor in Environmental Health, talks were also given on fire risk by East Sussex Fire Service and disposing of fat and oil by Southern Water.
Companies represented included restaurants, cafes, residential homes, home caterers, church halls and retailers.
Councillor Jon Dow, Eastbourne Borough Council’s Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Place Services, said: “This was a hugely successful event and we had fantastic feedback from those who attended. This is something we will look to continue in the future.”
Councillor Isabelle Linington, Lewes District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environmental Impact, said: “Our main focus was to support local businesses through keeping them informed about changes to legislation but as well as that it was a great opportunity to engage with businesses personally.”
