Staying Flood Aware this Christmas

After a weekend of heavy rain, the weather now seems to be improving. However, some areas face further flooding and flood water can still be dangerous.

The gov.uk website has published a Flood Information Service which offers advice on how to be flood aware and stay safe.

The Environment Agency reminds anyone travelling to first check the flood risk along their route as only 30cm of fast-flowing water is enough to move your car.

Flood waters contain other dangers, below the surface. If you’re planning a festive walk this Christmas, keep children and pets away from flood water as there could be heavy debris, sharp objects, open manhole covers, sewage and chemicals.

The message is to keep yourself safe, keep property safe and to keep others safe.

You can keep up to date with the latest situation or call Floodline on 0345 988 1188 or follow @EnvAgency and #floodaware on Twitter for the latest flood updates.
