The families of two children who tragically died have planted a new tree at a memorial garden in Shinewater.

Sean Pearce-Weston died in a road collision aged just eight and Zachary Whitington died in his sleep just before his 16th birthday.

Sadly, during the summer the garden was targeted by vandals who removed memorial plaques for the boys.

Eastbourne Borough Council’s Neighbourhood First team took the opportunity to improve the garden by laying new paving and invited the families to plant a new tree.

New plaques are being installed courtesy of Tookey Memorials in Polegate.

The boys’ mothers, Gail Whitington and Cassie Pearce, thanked Theresa Ticehurst, the council’s senior caseworker for Langney, for her efforts which led to the paving slabs being replaced and the tree being planted.

Langney Councillor Alan Shuttleworth said: “We are pleased to be able to support these families in remembering the boys they lost so young. It must have been devastating for them to see the garden vandalised so we were glad to help with improvements.”
