Consultation launched on long-term plans for Lewes district

People are being invited to have their say on a plan that identifies sites for housing and employment, and sets out policies to guide development in the Lewes district in the period up to 2030.

Lewes District Council is launching a six-week consultation on its Draft Local Plan Part 2 running from 24 September to 5 November.

The draft plan applies to the area covered by the council outside of the South Downs National Park as the National Park Authority is producing its own local plan.

Sites for housing are identified in Newhaven, Barcombe Cross, North Chailey, South Chailey, Ringmer, and on the edge of Burgess Hill in Wivelsfield Parish. A site for gypsy and traveller pitches is identified within Plumpton Parish. Sites for employment are identified in Newhaven and Falmer.

Following the consultation and approval of the draft plan, it will be formally submitted to the Secretary of State for examination in January 2019.

The documents can be viewed and comments submitted via the Council’s online consultation website at from 24 September 2018.

Alternatively, hard copies of the documents are available at all local libraries and the Council Offices at Southover House, Southover Road, Lewes, BN7 1AB.
