Council launches study into open spaces and facilities

Lewes District Council has commissioned a specialist consultancy to carry out an assessment of all the district’s open spaces, sport and recreation facilities.

4global consultancy will assess each space or facility taking into account various factors such as condition, accessibility, size, car parking and potential future use.

The study will encompass sites and facilities under ownership of parish and town councils, the county council, sports clubs and private owners.

Councillor Isabelle Linington, Cabinet member for Environmental Impact, said: “This comprehensive assessment will inform us whether the existing provision meets the needs of local people and will help identify what plans should be made for the future.”

The study will run until January 2020 so that winter, summer and indoor sports are assessed during their peak use times.

Representatives of national governing bodies for some sports as well as Sports England will be involved in analysing the data.
