Lewes District Council's Armed Forces Champion, Councillor Sharon Davy, attended an event to celebrate diversity and Fijian's contribution to the UK, particularly to its Armed Forces.

Bula Festival 2021 was an all-day festival in Aldershot on Saturday, September 18, featuring cultural shows, talks, arts and crafts, music, food, drink and dancing.

Councillor Davy, who was accompanied by her husband, said: "This was a fantastic event. We were enchanted by the warm, happy welcome we were given from the Fijian community.

"The Fijian High Commissioner to the UK, Jitoko Tikolevue, gave a brief, moving Fijian history speech in English and Fijian with proud reference to the brave and fearless warriors who are part of our Armed Forces family and in celebration of Fiji Day on October 10th.

"There was a Service of Remembrance to remember Fijians who have served and lost life or limb. We left with a spring in our step and pondered upon the uplifting, positive and happy character of our hosts."

Councillor Davy is keen to learn more about helping Fijians secure British citizenship after serving in the UK Armed Forces.
