Council teams collecting waste and recycling in Saltdean, Peacehaven and Newhaven, had a lucky escape recently after car drivers performed illegal and highly dangerous manoeuvres to get round the refuse trucks.
Three different drivers at various points in the collection round mounted the verge, narrowly missing the council staff as they visited local homes.
The drivers had their car registration numbers taken and the information was passed to Sussex Police as part of Operation Crackdown.
Councillor Isabelle Linington, Leader of Lewes District Council and Cabinet Member for the Environment, said:
“I hope these drivers are identified and prosecuted.
“The teams that collect the waste and recycling in the district do a fantastic job.
“Drivers simply have to exercise a little patience and consideration while our staff carry out their important work.”
