Nicki Whitehead (front, fourth from left) celebrating with others who completed the LEAP programme and judges
An entrepreneur has scooped £2,500 towards setting up her new business consultancy by winning the Local Enterprise and Apprenticeship Platform (LEAP) annual award.
Nicki Whitehead was also presented with a winner’s trophy at a LEAP celebration dinner at The View, Seaford Head, after wowing judges in a Dragon’s Den-style competition.
Nicki, who lives in Seaford, enrolled on the LEAP programme to develop her concept for Home Care Business Support, which will provide management and training for firms providing care to people who want to remain independent in their own homes.
She said: “I am delighted to receive this award and would like to thank everyone at LEAP who has helped make my business dream become a reality. The guidance given through one-to-one mentoring, workshops and seminars is invaluable in getting a new business off the ground.”
Runner-up was Cara Brennan who received £500 to help with her new business Cara Brennan Art, creating abstract paintings from her own designs. Limited prints of her artwork will be translated into luxury scarves and greeting cards.
Funded by Lewes District Council, LEAP champions new enterprise within the Lewes district and guides local people through a training programme to help them start a new business.
Councillor James MacCleary, Cabinet member for Regeneration and Prosperity, said: “Congratulations to Nicki, Cara and all those who completed the LEAP programme this year - we wish them all the very best for their new business ventures.
“It is a priority for Lewes District Council’s new cooperative alliance to grow entrepreneurs and businesses, demonstrated by our continued investment into LEAP. It is a free, comprehensive programme of support and we wholeheartedly encourage any local person considering starting their own business to take advantage of this expert help.”
Registration for the LEAP 2020 programme, delivered by Edeal, opens in November with the course beginning in January 2020. For more information or to register visit yourleap.co.uk
