The More than 700 people visited Newhaven Fort to attend Brewhaven, the first Sussex-based craft beer festival.
The event on Saturday October 16, hosted by Visit Lewes, was a sell-out success, with visitors sampling 15 of the finest craft beers form our local area. Guests also got to experience a variety of Sussex-produced food and despite a damp start to the day, were able to enjoy the autumn sunshine.
Live music was played throughout the day with a mix of rock, indie and soul music, from eight different bands. Evening visitors were even treated to some sea shanties from the Wellington Wailers.
Cllr James MacCleary, Newhaven councillor and Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Prosperity, said: "It was a wonderful event, It was really nice to see so many families for the daytime session in particular. Some people like to talk Newhaven down but here we have an event that brought over 700 people to our historic Fort. People travelled from Brighton, London and elsewhere to attend and it was a great opportunity to showcase our town at its best.
"The tickets for this year sold out incredibly quickly and the feedback we've had from the brewers who came has been very positive. I am already looking forward to next year's event and exploring how we can make it even bigger and better than this year."
Brewers who attended the event were also delighted with Brewhaven. Danny Tapper, of Break Brewery, said: "Organisation was spot-on. Excellent communication and clear instructions. Loved the general atmosphere and vibe too and great street-food stalls."
Des Murphy, of Lakedown Brewing Co, added: "We thought the whole concept was brilliant in its simplicity - local beers, local food and local entertainment. Not only was it a perfect opportunity to showcase and sell our beers to the public, we also made some solid business contacts for the future. I can honestly say it was one of the best run festivals I have been to....10 out of 10!"
