The Environment Agency are carrying out essential flood embankment repairs on the west bank of the Tidal River Ouse, between Lewes and Hamsey.
Why is the work needed?
The embankments help to better protect residential and commercial properties in the North Street Quarter and Talbot Terrance areas of Lewes from flooding, reduce the exposure of the railway embankment to flood water (which could impact its structural integrity) and protect Offham Marshes Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) from exposure to brackish water.
Public footpath access
To complete the project safely it will be necessary to occasionally divert or close some sections of the footpath. The Environment Agency has apologised for any inconvenience this causes.
