We would like to send a heartfelt thank you to all our residents.
Thanks is owed, for the way local people have responded to the restrictions placed on them since the lockdown was announced on March 23. We know the last eight weeks have been extremely difficult, for everyone.
Despite the restrictions on normal day-to-day life, communities across the district have played their part in limiting the spread of this terrible virus in East Sussex and as a consequence, have helped to protect the NHS.
We are also hugely grateful to all the people who have maintained key services during this time. Most obviously, those within hospitals, care homes, pharmacies, schools, food retailers and our own staff, who have been busy paying out grants to local businesses, providing emergency food parcels and collecting the waste and recycling.
The government has announced its latest advice and the core message remains the same - the lockdown remains in place.
You should stay at home as much as possible and observe social distancing (at least two metres) at all times when you leave your home, to exercise, or buy food and other essentials and if you meet anyone.
Vulnerable people who have been shielding at home, must continue to do so and if you have symptoms, you must self-isolate at home. We know it’s tough but it’s helping to keep you safe
While you should walk or cycle if you can, if you need to use public transport or visit an enclosed public space, the government has recommended the use of a face covering, to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The government also has other plans for the coming months, but these all depend on the progress being made to overcome the coronavirus.
Your council will continue to do all it can to support you and our local economy.
There is no doubt that we are yet to beat Covid-19, but by sticking together we will overcome it.
From the leaders of the Co-operative Alliance on Lewes District Council, Cllr Zoe Nicholson, Cllr James MacCleary, Cllr Chris Collier and Cllr Steve Saunders
