Visit Lewes is spreading Christmas cheer this year, with the ‘Shop Independent at Christmas’ campaign.
Having met with local independent traders and hearing about the many challenges they face, the Visit Lewes team wanted to offer extra support in the run up to Christmas. Lewes has over 100 independent shops which is a remarkable figure for a town of its size.
From 1st November, shoppers have been invited to collect a free Visit Lewes tote bag from the Tourist Information Centre, containing a card which can be stamped each time they make a purchase from a participating shop. Once 10 stamps are collected, the card is returned to the TIC to be entered into a prize draw.
The prize is a fabulously quirky hamper of goods donated by the shops taking part. Their generosity has been extraordinary, with one local jeweller contributing a necklace worth over £100, vouchers for everything from afternoon tea to haberdashery, local produce, books, beauty products, homewares and ceramics.
The campaign has been met with overwhelming positivity from both retailers and shoppers alike, so much so that over 300 shoppers are now taking part, and the TIC has run out of bags! Anyone who’d like to join them can still pick up a card from the TIC, and stamps can be collected until 20th December, when the draw will take place.
The winner will be announced on visitlewes.co.uk and Visit Lewes social media on the same day.
