The Environment Agency will be carrying out essential flood embankment repairs on the west bank of the Tidal River Ouse, between the Winterbourne Stream and Southerham Rail Bridge in September and October 2022.
The work is expected to take around six weeks to compete.
Why is the work required?
The embankments help to better protect residential and commercial properties in the Lewes Town Centre West area from river flooding, reduce the exposure of the railway embankment to flood water (which could impact its structural integrity) and protect Lewes Railway Land Nature Reserve from exposure to brackish water.
Public footpath access
To complete the project safely it will be necessary to occasionally divert some sections of the footpath. The Environment Agency apologises for any inconvenience caused.
