Taxi Licensing

Drivers, Proprietors and Operators

As most of you will be aware the Brexit transition period ended on the 31 December 2020. This means that from 1 January 2021, the UK will have a new points-based immigration system that will impact how we are able to grant licenses. If you are an EU citizen you must apply to the EU Settlement Scheme via  https://www.gov.uk/settled-status-eu-citizens-families/applying-for-settled-status (EUSS), before 30 June 2021, if you want to continue living and working in the UK. Lewes District Council and Eastbourne Borough Council value all our licenced drivers and we want our EU drivers, to remain working in our areas.

Please act now. It’s free to apply and the scheme protects the rights of EU citizens, including access to healthcare, benefits and pensions.

New Statutory Taxi and Private Hire Vehicle Standards issued by the Department for Transport have been received, this will mean that changes will need to be made to the Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Guidance in due course.
