Taxi vehicle licence

A vehicle licence is made out to the owner of the vehicle and any individuals that have an interest in that vehicle.  You do not need to be a licensed driver to hold a vehicle licence but you do have to be a licensed driver in order to drive the vehicle.

How to apply

To apply for a vehicle licence you will need:

  • Registration Document (V5 log book)    
  • Valid Insurance Certificate  
  • Valid MOT certificate     

  • Meter Calibration Certificate  

  • Vehicle compliance test

Temporary vehicle licence

If a licensed vehicle is replaced temporarily, then the licence can be transferred to a replacement vehicle. In these circumstances hire companies and licence holders should contact their relevant Licensing Section for guidance on how to proceed.   

Eastbourne Borough Council's Licensing Committee have adopted new Guidance (see below).  This Guidance comes into effect from 1st December 2019.  This Guidance will have a phased implemented over a six month period from December 2019.
