Bulky waste

The bulky waste collection service is for items which cannot be recycled or disposed of in your household collection or communal bins. This includes items of furniture and household appliances, but we are unable to offer house clearances or collect from commercial properties.

If you choose to use a private waste company, remember to check they are licensed as a waste carrier. You have a legal duty to ensure that your waste is properly disposed of, and if you use an unlicensed waste carrier you could be committing an offence. You can check whether a waste company is licensed on the Environment Agency's public register of waste carriers, brokers, and dealers.

Free alternatives to this service

Freecycle and Freegle host local communities where you can find someone who wants to reuse or recycle your old items for free. East Sussex County Council has an extensive list of local furniture collection and recycling schemes.

If your items cannot be reused, and you can transport them, you can dispose of them at your local Household Waste Recycling Site (please note that there are charges for certain types of waste).

You may be able to find a waste service on LoveJunk, an online marketplace for waste removal and reuse.
