Car parking

Lewes district and Eastbourne have on-street parking, council-run parking and privately-run multi-storey car parks. Responsibility for parking services is shared with East Sussex County Council. Car parking prices differ from site to site.

Charges

The councils operate a number of Pay and Display and free car parks across the Lewes and Eastbourne area. The current charges are available to download. The councils also offer a range of permits for use in its Pay and Display car parks. Disabled badge holders can park free of charge.

Payment can be made by cash using coins. RingGo cashless parking is also available for car parks across Lewes District and Eastbourne Borough. RingGo allows you to pay using credit or debit card using a mobile phone app or you can pay over the telephone. Find out more about RingGo

Height restrictions

The following car parks have height restriction barriers set at 1.9 metres.

The following car parks have height restriction barriers set at 2 metres.

  • Eastbourne - Princes Park
  • Eastbourne - Redoubt
  • Eastbourne - Southfields Road
  • Eastbourne - Sovereign Park East
  • Eastbourne - Sovereign Park West
  • Peacehaven - Roderick Avenue (north)
  • Peacehaven - Steyning Avenue
  • Peacehaven - Piddinghoe Avenue
  • Seaford - Buckle

The following car parks have height restriction barriers set at 2.1 metres.

  • Barcombe - High Street
  • Newhaven - Dacre Road
  • Newhaven - Denton Islands
  • Newhaven - West Quay
  • Seaford - Richmond Road

The following car parks have height restriction barriers set at 2.2 metres.

  • Telscombe - Fairlight Avenue

 

Parking permits

Eastbourne Borough Council manages concessionary permits for certain sites in Eastbourne.

Downland parking

Pay and display parking is free to holders of the Residents Leisure Card at the following downland car parks:   

  • Beachy Head
  • Warren Hill
  • Butts Brow

The Residents Card must be clearly displayed in the windscreen of your vehicle. To obtain a Resident's Card, contact us online or call 01323 410000.

An Annual Downland permit (£20) is available for non-residents and is valid for any of the three locations listed above. Apply for or renew a Downland parking permit online.

Seafront parking

Seafront permits are available for the following car parks at a cost of £40 per year. Your permit is only valid for one car park for the year.

  • Fishermans Green
  • Sovereign Park (Langney Point)
  • Princes Park
  • Redoubt

For members of seafront bowling clubs, a permit is available between 1 April and 31 October at a cost of £20. It is valid for one specified seafront car park.

Lewes District Council handles enquiries relating to concessionary permits at West Quay in Newhaven and Sutton Croft Lane in Seaford, please contact us if you need more information about these permits.

All other permit enquiries are managed by the Lewes Parking Shop.
