Change of business premises in the Lewes district
If you are moving into, out of, or within the Lewes district, you need to tell us as soon as possible.
Read our guidance below on how to use our Citizen Access online forms to notify us if you are:
- moving into a business premises in the Lewes district from outside of the area
- moving out of a business premises in the district
- moving from one business premises to another within the district. Please note: you will need to complete two forms for this.
Moving into a business premises in the Lewes district
Step 1
You will need to register for and be logged in to our website My Account. You can then use the Lewes district self-service Citizen Access portal to tell us if you are moving into a business premises in the district from outside of the area.
Step 2
Once you are registered with My Account and have successfully logged in, follow these steps to tell us you are moving into a Lewes district business premises:
- Scroll down the My Account Welcome page to the Business Rates area
- Select View Lewes Business Rates Services
- On the Citizen Access main page, select the first option Moving in or out of a business premises
- Select the option Move in district
- Complete the online form. Please ensure you upload your lease at the end of this form.
Once we have confirmed your address we will send you your Business Rates reference number. In most cases this will be by email. If you do not receive the reference by email, your reference will be on your opening bill. You can then complete your Citizen Access registration.
Step 3 - Complete your Citizen Access registration
Once you have received your reference, you can get all the benefits of Citizen Access by completing your registration. To find your payment history, set up Direct Debits, tell us about a move, go paperless and more, simply:
- Log in to My Account
- Scroll down the My Account Welcome page to the Business Rates area
- Select View Lewes Business Rates Services
- On the Citizen Access main page, select My account details
- Make sure you have your new Business Rates reference to hand, then complete the details.
- If have any issues with your details not being recognised, please enter details exactly as they appear on your bill and try both person and organisation. If you have provided a trading name, you may be on the system as an organisation.
To visit Citizen Access in future, you simply need to Log in to My Account each time.
Moving out of a business premises in the Lewes district
If you are moving out of a business premises in the district, you can tell us using our online form on our Citizen Access portal.
Make sure you have your Business Rates reference number available before you start. You can find this on your latest bill.
- Visit Citizen Access to tell us you are moving out of the Lewes district
- Select the Business Rates tab
- Select Moving in or out of a business premises from the options
- Select the moving out form
- Complete the online form. If have any issues with your details not being recognised, please enter details exactly as they appear on your bill and try both person and organisation. If you have provided a trading name or are joint liable parties, you may be on the system as an organisation.
Moving business premises within the Lewes district
Step 1
You will need to register for and be logged in to our website My Account. This is a new service.
You can then use the Lewes district self-service Citizen Access portal to tell us if you are moving from one business property in the Lewes district to another within Lewes district. Please note: you will need to complete two forms.

Step 2
Important: you must have already completed both parts of the My Account and Citizen Access 'View Lewes Council Tax Services' registrations to continue.
- Log in to My Account
- Scroll down the My Account Welcome page to the Business Rates area
- Select View Lewes Business Rates Services.
- This will take you to Citizen Access. Select the first option Moving in or out of a business premises
- You will then need to complete 2 forms to report your move out of one premises and into the other. The two forms to select are Move out of the district AND Move in district
- Complete both online forms. If have any issues with your details not being recognised, please enter details exactly as they appear on your bill and try both person and organisation. If you have provided a trading name or are joint liable parties, you may be on the system as an organisation.
Change of business premises in the Eastbourne
If you are moving into, out of, or within Eastbourne, you need to tell us as soon as possible.

- moving into a business premises in Eastbourne from outside of the area
- moving out of a business premises in the borough
- moving from one business premises to another within the borough. Please note: you will need to complete two forms for this.
Moving into a business premises in the Eastbourne borough
Step 1
You will need to register for and be logged in to our website My Account. You can then use the Eastbourne self-service Citizen Access portal to tell us if you are moving into a business premises in the borough from outside of the area.
Step 2
Once you are registered with My Account and have successfully logged in, follow these steps to tell us you are moving into a Eastbourne business premises:
- Scroll down the My Account Welcome page to the Business Rates area
- Select View Eastbourne Business Rates Services
- On the Citizen Access main page, select the first option Moving in or out of a business premises
- Select the option Move in borough
- Complete the online form. Please ensure you upload your lease at the end of this form.
