Statement of Community Involvement

The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) sets the standard and approach we take to involve stakeholders and the community in consulting on planning matters. This includes the handling of major planning applications. It is intended to 'signpost' opportunities for anyone who wishes to make a contribution to planning for our future.

The original 2006 SCI was revised in 2010, due to Government changes to Planning Policy Statement 12 and the creation of the South Downs National Park Authority. The revision was subject to consultation between May and November 2010, prior to adoption.

As a result of a Cabinet decision on 19 October 2011, we adopted a new protocol on planning matters between ourselves and the Lewes District Association of Local Councils.

You can download documents relating to the Lewes District Council SCI below.

We published a new SCI for consultation with the local community and other interested parties. The consultation was undertaken between Friday 24 March and Friday 19 May 2017.

The current SCI was adopted in 2017 which you can download below.
