Democratic Services supports many of the Councils' activities and we are committed to ensuring an efficient, highly effective service with a strong customer focus.  We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic person to join our team in a role that offers an excellent opportunity for development and career progression in local government.

As Committee Officer (Cabinet) you will manage and provide a comprehensive administrative service to the Cabinets of both Councils and other Committees as required. Providing professional advice on the decision-making process to members and officers, you will be responsible for ensuring high standards of corporate governance. You will be part of the Committee Services team which is responsible for administrative support and enforcing governance procedures across the Councils. Responsibilities also include participation in activities related to elected members, including member development and induction.

The successful candidate will have experience as a committee administrator (preferably having supported Cabinet previously), a thorough knowledge of how local government works and will have worked in democratic services or a similar corporate governance role. Also required are strong communication skills, political awareness, tact and diplomacy, attention to detail, an ability to think logically and plan ahead, and competency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams.  An understanding and experience of Modern.gov and Public-i software is desirable. Reliability and calmness under pressure are pre-requisites, given that the role often involves working to tight deadlines.

The team currently has a hybrid model of working with some days in the office and some days working from home.  The successful candidate will be required to work at different times at our Lewes, Newhaven and Eastbourne Offices and some evening work will be required.  This will be discussed further at interview.
