Circus skills group is flying high after council boost
Eastbourne Borough Council has helped a community group reach new heights with a £4,500 award from its Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) fund.

The council grant has contributed towards the cost of a new freestanding aerial rig for the circus group's base at Bourne Hall. Unlike traditional setups, this metal rig is not built into the structure and allows up to 10 people to safely hang from apparatus, such as silks, ropes, or hoops, at any one time.
Councillor Stephen Holt, Leader of Eastbourne Borough Council, said: "We are absolutely thrilled to support Sweet Circus.
"This CIL funding is all about investing in the heart of our community, and Sweet Circus is certainly bringing a fantastic splash of colour and activity to local life. It's a great feeling to know our grant has given them a crucial boost towards getting this fantastic new rig off the ground. This project truly reflects the spirit of the CIL fund, giving local groups a platform to fly high!"
The Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) is a charge collected from new developments in the area. It's used to fund vital improvements in local infrastructure, such as community facilities.
Sweet Circus, which was formed 11 years ago, has taught circus skills to thousands of local people and now boasts five professional instructors.
Miz Wells, Sweet Circus founder, said: "Without this crucial support we would not have been able to get our own venue up and running, it has made a real difference to the range and number of classes, workshops and services we can deliver."
Sweet Circus runs classes for all ages and abilities and hosts shows and events such as birthday parties. To find out more details about the group's activities, class timetables, and booking information, visit: www.sweetcircus.net
