Asset management and the repairs services for tenants and leaseholders of Lewes District Council and Eastbourne Borough Council is delivered by Housing Property Services. Housing Property Services manage a combined property portfolio of over 8,500 homes and invests c.£20million per annum in maintenance, service contracts, major repairs and improvements. Housing Property Services manages a varied property portfolio from rural individual properties to flats in busy town centres Our service is also growing as the Councils' investment companies develop new housing covering a range of different tenures and accommodation types.
We are looking for a motivated Surveyor to join our Housing Property Services Team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in maintaining and improving our housing stock, ensuring that residents live in safe and decent homes. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out property inspections across our social housing portfolio and will help inform investment programmes and oversee repair and maintenance works.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake stock condition inspections across the Council's housing portfolio.
- Assess building defects and specify remedial works.
- Manage and monitor repair, maintenance, and improvement projects.
- Support the delivery of planned maintenance programmes, including kitchens, bathrooms, roofing, and energy efficiency improvements.
- Work closely with contractors, residents, and internal teams.
- Monitor contractor performance and quality of workmanship.
- Maintain accurate asset and property records.
- Respond to technical enquiries and provide professional advice to residents.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Experience of surveying residential properties, ideally within social housing or local government.
- Knowledge of building construction, maintenance, and repair techniques.
- Experience of diagnosing building defects and specifying remedial works.
- Understanding of housing legislation, health and safety requirements, and property compliance obligations.
- Strong report writing, communication, and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage workloads and projects effectively.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use.
