An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our busy, friendly, and forward-thinking Green Consultancy team. We manage a diverse portfolio of beautiful public parks, coastal seafronts, downland spaces, and historic nature sites.
Your primary focus will be supervising and administering high-quality grounds maintenance across both council areas and assist with delivering projects within our parks & open spaces.
The role requires you to manage planned and reactionary works on a day-to-day basis across both Lewes District and Eastbourne Borough; being available to deal with issues as and when they arise, prioritising accordingly.
Key Responsibilities
- Contract Supervision: act as a key link with our external grounds maintenance partner, monitoring contract performance and KPIs.
- Project Delivery: manage projects within specific capital and revenue budgets.
- Reactive works: ensuring safety and compliance within playgrounds and parks by being available throughout the day to respond to repairs and enquiries.
- Stakeholder liaison: build positive working relationships with local councillors, suppliers, volunteer groups, and housing teams.
- Technical knowledge: operational and administrative support for grounds maintenance contract specifications and minor works.
Essential Qualifications & Knowledge
- Experience: proven track record in contract monitoring, amenity management, or park/green space operations.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong background in grounds maintenance specifications, fine turf, biodiversity/wildflower management, and tree/shrub care.
- Qualifications: a relevant qualification in horticulture or amenity management is desirable.
Skills & Competencies
- Communication: excellent verbal and written communication for liaising with councillors, external stakeholders and the general public.
- Conflict resolution: the ability to negotiate and make objective, evidence-based decisions when interests collide.
- Risk assessment: sound judgment in evaluating hazards and prioritising remedial works based on risk
- Budget management: ability to manage works within set budget constraints.
- Contract management: manage and administer contracts as per the Council's procurement regulations.
- Flexibility: comfortable working from home and travelling extensively across the Eastbourne and Lewes districts. Occasional flexibility for evening or weekend meetings is required.
