Council leader calls on 'wonderful Lewes district community' to support people of Venezuela
The Leader of Lewes District Council is calling on residents, businesses, and community organisations to rally behind the people of Venezuela following the devastating earthquakes that struck the country last week.

The best and quickest way to support those affected by the Venezuela earthquake and emergencies around the world is by donating. The Red Cross is already supporting the response to the earthquake in Venezuela via its Disaster Fund and has emergency teams on the ground in Venezuela.
Councillor Zoe Nicholson, Leader of Lewes District Council, has described the images emerging from Venezuela as 'heartbreaking'. She said:
"The devastation in Venezuela is unimaginable, and the human suffering is profound.
"Families have lost everything. Entire neighbourhoods have been destroyed. In moments like this, our shared humanity must guide us.
"With such heartbreaking scenes on our TVs and in the newspapers, I am asking our wonderful Lewes district community to donate to the Red Cross Disaster Fund - every contribution, no matter the size, will help save lives."
Donations will help provide essential supplies, temporary shelters, trauma support, and medical equipment urgently needed in affected regions.
The Leader of Eastbourne Borough Council has joined with Councillor Nicholson to support the call for support.
Councillor Stephen Holt said:
"We cannot stand by while communities struggle to survive in the aftermath of such catastrophic loss.
"Zoe is absolutely right, the pictures of countless buildings laid waste by the earthquakes are deeply distressing.
"I know our residents will respond with their usual generosity, however large or small the donation."
Residents wishing to donate can do so directly through the Red Cross Disaster Fund online - www.redcross.org.uk
