Council decision moves NSQ regeneration from 'ambition to delivery'

Cabinet councillors at Lewes District Council have approved the sale of the council's original landholding at North Street Quarter (NSQ) in Lewes, clearing a major hurdle in the redevelopment of this highly significant brownfield site.

The decision will enable Human Nature, now working in partnership with Hollybrook, to acquire this land at the same time they buy back the majority share they sold to the Council.  Single ownership of the NSQ site is essential for unlocking Homes England support, attracting private investment, and progressing delivery of the new health hub, flood‑mitigation measures, hundreds of new homes and a range of community facilities.

The council acquired the majority of the land earlier this year to safeguard the future of the project. With Cabinet's latest decision confirmed, the scheme can now move into its next phase.

Councillor Zoe Nicholson, Leader of Lewes District Council, said:

"By agreeing this sale, we have taken a decisive step that allows North Street Quarter to move from ambition to delivery. Unified ownership is the foundation on which the health hub, 685 new homes, vital flood protection and new public spaces will be built.

"I know as well as anyone that residents have waited a long time for this development to come to fruition. Transforming a former industrial site of this scale is never straightforward, but our determination to see North Street Quarter delivered has never wavered."

Human Nature has confirmed that Hollybrook, an experienced mixed‑use developer with a strong track record in construction and development management, has joined the project team to support the next phase of delivery.
