We grant temporary events notices (TENs) to authorise events for licensable activities.

Licensable activities include:

a) the sale by retail of alcohol

b) the supply of alcohol by or on behalf of a club (applies to Registered Clubs only)

c) the provision of regulated entertainment

d) the provision of late night refreshment

It is essential to read the guidance notes and our licensing fees information below before starting your application. You can only apply for a TEN as an individual, not an organisation.

For a 'Standard' TEN, there must be at least 10 clear working days between the date you submit this form and the start date of the event.

For a 'Late' TEN there must be at least 5-9 clear working days between the date you submit this form and the start date of the event.

You will need a TEN if a particular licensable activity is not included in your existing premises licence.

The 10-day deadline does not include the day the notice is received or the date the event is due to take place.

Restrictions

Your event must:

  • have no more than 499 people at all times - including staff, volunteers and children
  • last no more than 168 hours (7 days)

You must be at least 18 to apply for a TEN.

In one calendar year a premises can hold 15 TENs, or an aggregate of up to 21 days of licensable activity, whichever comes first.

Each event covered by a TEN can last up to 168 hours (7 days).

There must be a minimum of 24 hours between events that are notified by a premises user or associates of that premises user, in respect of the same premises.

If you hold a personal licence to sell alcohol, you can give up to 50 TENs a year, including up to 10 late TENs.

If you do not hold a personal licence you can give up to 5 TENs a year, including a limit of 2 late TENs.

You must keep your TEN in a safe place where the event is held.
