The Land Availability Assessment (LAA) previously known as the Strategic Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment (SHELAA) is a detailed document that identifies and assesses land to support future development.
The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) requires us to identify and maintain at least a five year supply of deliverable and developable land for housing. The study assesses whether sites submitted to us for housing are either Deliverable (suitable, achievable and available) or Developable (suitable with a reasonable prospect of being available at a specific point in time) for future housing development. As a ‘live’ document the assessment has been updated on an annual basis.
The LAA is an important technical piece of evidence. The study is not a statement of Council policy and does not in itself determine whether a site should be allocated for development (Paragraph 2, Section 1 of Housing and economic land availability assessment, NPPG)).
Lewes District Call for potential housing sites
The Land Availability Assessment (LAA) is usually updated on an annual basis. If you wish to submit a site to be considered in the Lewes 2020 land availability assessment update please follow the link to our Consultation page and complete the relevant questionnaire, including uploading a site location plan. These must be received by 18th December 2020.
You can now submit sites for consideration for housing, employment land or for renewables or green infrastructure.
