Booking a site inspection
There are a number of ways you can book a building control site inspection for your building project.
How do I request a site inspection?
For inspections within the borough of Eastbourne you will need to book a site inspection through the East Sussex Building Control Partnership website.
If you are within the Lewes District, the easiest way to request a site inspection is by using our online site inspection request form, or you can use the LABC site inspection request app, email or call us.

When are site inspections carried out?
Lewes District Council's building control surveyors carry out site inspections Monday to Friday up until 3pm. Inspection requests must be received before 4pm for next-day visits. Whilst we cannot guarantee a specific time slot, we will make contact on the morning of the inspection to provide a more specific time of arrival. If your request is urgent, please call us to speak to a member of the team.
What are the inspection stages?
Inspection stages will vary depending on the type of building work that is being carried out. The typical inspection stages for a new dwelling or extension may include:
- commencement
- foundation excavation
- oversite
- damp proof course (DPC)
- drainage laid
- steels
- insulation
- roof
- drainage test
- final inspection - for when all work has been completed
